Are they any good? You don't hear much about them. I've heard Ten sounds like Whitesnake.

They are both kinda Whiteesnakey, if that's a word. Two differnet vocal styles; Ten's singer (Something Hughes I think) has a lower pitched voice, which works pretty well in parts. Talisman is Jeff Scott Soto, who is just, well, great (Yngwie's first coulpe albums, Takara, and a million side projects.)

I only have Fear the Force for Ten, and it seems pretty good. The Title track is really good...it has a real medieval them to the lyrics, and makes you expect much of the same the rest of the album...but the rest is a bit more mainstream.

I'd recommend getting the recent best-of of Talisman to get a feel for them. They have a bit more variety, some heavy, some soft, but all done well. Songs like Time after Time (great vocal harmonies in the chorus) and others are really solid. I think this band has the edge on musicianship as well.

Ah, get 'em both, you'll like Talisman more though, if I had to guess.

Ten is great!!!!!!!!! I really dig this band. I have the Spellbound and Far Beyond the World CD's and I give both very high marks! If you're into melodic hard rock, I think you'll dig them. I first heard their music on Hardradio. I heard them play the tune "Fear the Force" which is on Spellbound and I bought the CD. There's a song on Spellbound called "We Rule the Night" which could have been in the Braveheart movie. It's very majestic! I bought Far Beyond the World which is their most recent studio album. Gary Hughes the singer writes all the material. I think he's very talented. Good lyrics. I also dig the power ballads that are on the albums. The song "Till the End of Time" from Spellbound was played at my wedding reception. Both my wife and I really dig the words of that song.

Now if they would only get a US recording contract and tour over here.

Dammit. You just said a song was good enough to be in the Braveheart soundtrack. Now I have to pull the damn CD out of storage (we are renovating the house, so I'm in utter chaos,) and listen to this!

Um, OT, but Braveheart is the best move ever made. If anyone dares to challenge me in this, I WILL fight you in a duel!

Talisman is a great melodic metal band. Very good live also. Dangerous is a favourite song of mine.

Cool

Here's the opinionated version on TEN and Talisman.
Talisman earns a 98 out of 100 and Ten earns a 68 out of 100.

First of Talisman-they have a killer guitarist by the name of
Fredrik Akesson, a Swede with tons of taste, possesor of
great riffs, with the fluency of Yngwie Malmsteen but without
any of his excessive, fatty wankering.

Then, Talisman have the ubiquitous vocalist Jeff Scott Soto who does
an outstanding job on every release, but not every release
is great. In fact, Talisman albums tend to sound the same
if you hear more than three of them. They can be described as
very melodic hard rock, with a great singer.
You can also hear Jeff Scott Soto's love of funky music
on about a third of their tracks. Wonder what those european
dudes from Sweden made of it. At least it gives some kind
of variety instead of hearing the usual fare.
Their best album is probably "Genesis".
"I'll be Waiting" + "Coming Home" are killer tracks.

Now Ten-back in 1996 somebody online described them
as a metal Asia. This was clear as soon as you hear
Gary Hughes (their vocalists') voice. The first album was great
because they were complete unknowns, with a killer melodic
hard rock/metal sound, also some tunes were just lighter AOR fare,
but then you realize their guitar player is a hack.
His rhythm playing during the verses was just the most unimaginative, boring, "chugga chugga" muted e string heavy metal rhythm playing ever.
TEN write decent tunes, the production is okay, but the song titles,
lyrics and rhythm guitar playing can set your teeth on edge.
