. . .i recently picked up judas priest's turbo from '02 and i must say it sounds to me like a classic waiting to be discovered. the songs are incredibly catchy, tunes like locked in, out in the cold, private property, parental guidance and of course there's wild nights, hot & crazy days with its decadent chorus. it's succulent rock cream. it's priest at her commercial best, playing for the teenage masses, playing for the money, and doing it so well. the music is so over-the-top campy and fun i predict the album will be adapted into a broadway play starring hugh jackman. i wasn't sure about the guitar sound at first, it's very clean and electronic, direct input sounding, but it does work. it'd be interesting to hear it with super heavy, real sounding guitar amplification. . .

. . .well i came across a used copy of judas priest's electric eye dvd from '03. impressive package, loaded with great stuff, including what seems to be all their videos (is it all of their video promos?) and a sample song off every judas priest album up to that point. almost too much material. (and of course there's halford's prodigious solo output on top of all this consider. like i say, almost too much.) that's the greatness of judas priest, the depth of the catalog and all of the material of the utmost quality. a fountain of unstoppable talent. you've got to respect them for it. calling rob halford the metal god is fair. he is metal. is there any lead singer more metal than halford? i don't believe so. . .

. . .what interested me most was the video of a dallas, texas performance which appears to be from the turbo tour. such a timely treat for me, having just discovered judas priest's turbo masterpiece. now, the title of the show is preist . . . live! was the audio for the priest . . . live! cd taken from this show. in other words, is the audio identical on both the cd and dvd?

. . .secondly, does anyone know who opened this magnificent show in dallas? i'd be curious to know . . .

. . .finally, there's a local rock station here in bc that plays an entire classic album every sunday evening at six, many of them hard rock and metal. this month is led zeppelin month. last night they played sides three and four of physical graffiti having last week played sides one and two. i picked up martin popoff's review book and read his review of the recording. man, popoff writes like the devil. gotta be one of the coolest reviews i've ever read. he gives the album a ten out of ten. popoff's review also warrants a ten out of ten. . .

"02"? This album came out in 1986!

I'm not sure if Dallas was the opening city, but I was at the Troy NY show that summer, and it was my first metal show at age 16!

Icarus, he was probably referring to the r/m of Turbo which was released in 2001.

. . . you are right. my mistake. blindly took the release date off amazon and it is the date of a re-release. one cool thing about electric eye (and priest . . . live! too) is with the live performance you get to hear the turbo songs with REAL guitars . . .

Turbo is one of the worst albums ever made. I threw that sucker out my dorm room window the day it came out in 86. A $9 vinyl frisbee is what it amounted to.... I was so pissed at how Priest had sold out......
Usually when I don't like an album from a great band (Priest IS one of the all time greats) it will grow on me at least a little. Well, Turbo gets worse every time I hear it.....godawful!!

Go pick up Sad Wings, Stained Class, Unleashed in the East, etc......Forget Turbo..it turBLOWS!!

. . . i actually have all of those 70s priest albums and i can understand how a devotee of classic priest might be put off by turbo's unabashed commercialism. but that's where its fantastic magnificence lies. the glory was (and is) in judas priest's ability (and their producer tom allom's ability) to effortlessly bestride the glam metal wave of the mid-'80s and release a recording of ten songs, every one of those so beautifully crafted songs designed to be a potential top 40 smash radio and mtv hit . . .
