My 2 favorite singers right now are Russell Allen from Symphony X/Adrenaline Mob and Myles Kennedy. And can't forget, 17 days til MAIDEN!

I'll second the Russell Allen and add Andy B. Franck from Brainstorm/Symphorce.

After seeing Pentagram live just recently, I'll have to go with Bobby Liebling as a top contender.

The modern metal I listen to doesn't have clean vocalists, so I don't have a favorite vocalist in the current scene, though Ihsahn's clean voice has gotten a lot nicer on his new release.

I've been sort of disappointed with some of the classic metal singers in recent years. Russell Allen was my favorite "new" vocalist a few years ago when the band had just released The Odyssey. His voice is great on that and just plain fantastic on V the New Mythology. On newer material though, he seems to forgo singing (!!!) and shouts or uses a gruff voice for most of the songs. I think the band wanted to be more aggressive, but it's a real shame, because he has an amazing singing voice. This is actually the main reason I haven't enjoyed the last few Symphony X albums as much as the ones before. Well I guess the songs aren't quite as proggy as before either, but I really do miss his singing.

Having just seen Scorpions live on July 2nd in Toronto, I would definitely have to vote for Klaus Meine. The man's not human!! His voice sounds as good as it did over twenty years ago, he's amazing! Whenever I see these metal god concerts, they're the best for musicianship due to years of experience but unfortunately nature isn't normally kind to the vocalists. But Klaus Meine is the definite exception to that rule. He blew the crowd away. Of course the rest of the boys were insanely on top of their games too. These old-timers could certainly take the younger bands to school, in terms of energy level, enthusiasm and professionalism. Probably the biggest and likely most expensive stage show for any band I'd ever seen! Scorpions are amazing, one has to wonder why they'd be retiring when their popularity is still huge, while their energy and creativity remain very high. One of my top concerts over my 25+ years of going to rock shows and staying on topic here, Klaus was definitely the all-star for this event.

Cheers.

I keep hearing raging reviews about Scorpions tour. I guess I'm out of the loop, because I thought they had already retired. I'd really like to see this one, but I don't think it's going to happen. Fortunately I did see them back in 2001.

Wonder what you listen to, or what you call modern?

Anyway supposing melodic does not include growling, harsh vocals, raspy, wailing or similar, not including progressive rock /or metal, and giving or take last 10 years as modern, leave me with:

Nils Patrik Johansson (Astral Doors)
Olof "Enforcer" Wikstrand (Enforcer)
JB Christoffersson (Grand Magus)
Dave Silver (Savage Messiah)
Veronica Freeman (Benedictum)
Nina Osegueda (A Sound Of Thunder)
Liv Jagrell (Sister Sin)
Niklas "Viper" Stålvind (Wolf)
Christopher Shaner (Icarus Witch)
Dan Cleary (Striker)
Brandon Wright (Final Stage)
Mario Culjak (Stimulans)
Apollo Papathanasio (Firewind)

And of course some seasoned vocalists still kicking ass out there:

Jorn Lande
Urban Breed
Michael Kiske
Ralf Scheepers
Tim Owens
Andre Matos
Ronnie Atkins
Bruce Dickinson
Mats Levén
Biff Byford

etc.
