I'm going to see Overkill at Thunderdome next Friday nite (Metallica's playing that same nite, it's a no-brainer for me as to which show I'm going to). I'm sure quite a few other Hardboardians like Overkill, but they are one band that really isn't talked about here too much. I just picked up Killbox 13 the other day, it isn't their best, but it's pretty much what I expected from them - loud, raw, screeching, brain-pummeling metal with killer riffs. With all the guitarists they've recruited over the years, they always seem to find good ones - Dave Linsk was awesome on Bloodletting (definitely their heaviest, most brutal to date IMO).
Anyway, I wanted to do the favorite three album thing again, I'm curious what everybody else's faves are. As for me:
1. Horrorscope
2. Under The Influence
3. The Killing Mind
Their worst IMO is From The Underground And Below, which has the absolute worst Overkill tune ever, Promises. |

I'm not a huge fan, but I will say that they rule live!
My favorite three are probably:
1.WFO
2.Under the Influence
3.Feel the Fire
Of course I've only heard four of their albums, and one was I hear Black so that's not saying much.
My favorite song from Overkill is probably either Bastard Nation or 1000 points of Hate(is that the name of it? I can't remember actually) both from WFO. |

I always enjoyed Overkill. When you spin an Overkill cd, you know what you're going to get (brutality and more brutality). Probably that is the reason they never made it big. Anyway my personal favourite are:
-Years of Decay (Elimination is my all time favourite Overkill song)
-Horrorscope
-Killing Kind
I like WFO too I wonder why it's always ignored, this album deserves some respect IMO. I picked up Kill Box recently and it's not bad either. I don't hate any of their albums, except for Coverkill, which was a bloody wasted of time and energy. |

I'm in the minority here, but the ONLY Overkill album I've ever liked was The Years of Decay.
E.N.D
I Hate
Elimination
Time To Kill
are the best songs they've ever done.
Yes I've listened to the other stuff, I just found it lacking in comparison to TYOD. |

Heh...I kinda liked "Promises", because it's so insanely different from everything else they've done, which is pretty noticeable with a band like Overkill. Easy to see why it's so widely hated. But it's like this Savatage ballad in the middle of some hundred and ten or so heavy, head-banging originals. "Where the hell did this come from?" I always think when I hear that song, and only in a band like Overkill would such a brief but far-flung departure make me feel such...wonder. |
